We go through a lot of the dark, leafy greens.  We use many different types of greens and lettuces for main meals, side dishes, and smoothies.

I try hard not to run out of this very important staple in our daily diet so sometimes I buy more greens than we can possible consume in a quick amount of time.  I used to notice that the greens that were on the very bottom of the package would become wet and slimy after just a few days.

I Do Not Like To Waste Food.

It was for that reason I began experimenting the best ways of how to keep salad fresh longer and this is what I’ve learned to do:

  1. Remove from bag and place carefully in a mason jar {preferably buy the real thing}
  2. Be careful not to smoosh the greens down too tightly into the jar
  3. Seal with a lid
  4. Store at the top of the refrigerator where there is the most air flow
  5. Do not wash or rinse until you are about to eat it
It works.

Now our greens last twice as long as before.

  2. Greens don’t last very long around here. I drink green smoothies or thickies for breakfast, so I burn through spinach because I use 2 big fist fulls of it. I’ll have to try this tough.
