I wasn’t going to write about the roller coaster we’ve been riding recently in trying to solve the mysteries of some serious health and allergy issues that have plagued our household lately. The power of the pen is very powerful for me, however, and instead of curling up in a ball in the corner of my room like I feel like doing right now, writing is my therapy.
You don’t mind, do you?
In addition to keeping my sanity and a journal of our progress, it’s my prayer that some allergy issues info I share will help another. I’m also hoping that God will be glorified throughout and at the end of this interesting saga…..
Current Allergy Issues
I’m not going to divulge who’s having the health issues at the homestead to protect the shy, but I’ll just say that it’s a scary reality to now have to carry around Benedryl and an Epi Pen everywhere we go and to not know for certain what is causing the various symptoms. Although we just got the results of a skin scratch test and blood work from the Allergist yesterday, the answers are a little hazy and some symptoms remain even though I had already cut out several of the common allergen foods.
Within a few week’s time, we went from eating a normal, wide variety of foods to suddenly having to pare that down to no seafood of any kind, nothing made with wheat or regular flour, no dairy, no eggs, and no to nuts too. Oh yeah, and the tests revealed strong environmental allergies to molds, trees and grass and sensitivities to dogs, cats, and dust.
Awesome Sauce. Just. Awesome.
So we can’t jump on the
food cults popular food group followings unless there is a loyal group called the I-can-practically-only-eat-meat-fruits-and-veggies Folks. I don’t think so. OK, I’m exaggerating a little but did you see that list? We’d pretty much cut out dairy already so that wasn’t a biggie but no wheat, egg, or nuts? Those are truly in just about everything.
As frustrating and scary as this new normal is for our life right now, a few things that I know are true keep me going…..
- It could be worse.
- My family is blessed.
- We are not alone.
- Jesus is with us.
- Out of sorrow and conflict God often brings great truth.
- His joy is new every morning.
- I will not be moved.
- I will Praise Him in this storm.
- Prayer changes things.
- It could be WORSE and I am thankful it is not.
Current Allergy Issues Plan
So here’s my current plan of action:
To fight the pollen, mold, dust, and dander allergy issues, I will continue taking daily and weekly precautions while finding the best resources to limit the environmental allergies in our home and vehicles. To fight the food allergy issues, I’m still convinced that a leaky gut may be to blame for some of the problems springing up or making them worse, so I will also do what I can to ensure that our guts are healthy as possible.
That means that our entire household will avoid wheat, eggs, dairy, nuts, and seafood. We are going to also avoid nightshade vegetables as well since I’m thinking they are also an irritant right now. I will be sure to have plenty of healing broth, steamed veggies, fresh fruits, clean meats, less processed foods, more coconut-based foods, high-quality probiotics, more sleep, and hopefully less stress.
Until then, I’ll keep researching my eyes out, and not give up because, well, I can’t.
Food is essential. Remaining strong in the Lord through this is essential. Getting past this and back to healthy is essential, therefore, I will press on.
Is your family battling allergy issues right now?
I’d love to hear all about it!
