Don’t own an anteater as a pet? Me either. I typically leave the chore of killing bugs outside to the hubs. I joke that one of Superman’s hobbies is “weekly ant killing.” It seems that on any given Saturday, he can be seen walking around the yard, happily spraying ant mounds with his homemade ant-massacre concoction. When it comes to getting rid of the little pests that try to invade our home, sometimes this ole wifey has to take quick action and go on an ant killing spree of my own.
Hence, the best way to get rid of ants strategy …..
I have to admit, I think this is absolute genius, and I love the fun way in which my friend gives us the plan to get it all done to kill those little suckers. I’ve bought borax several times to make my own clothes detergent but it never occurred to me to fed it to pesky bugs that I wanted to get rid of.
Hallelu!

Shan, I can attest to the effectiveness of borax honey traps. Borax is not only useful for ants, but many insects since it works essentially by breaking open their exoskeleton. It works quite nicely in a garden as well. You can even mix it into the topsoil. It is a great tool for people who want to control pests naturally in their home and gardens. I would also add, figure out what is attracting ants into your home and find out their entry points. If you can address those two issues first, then attack those ants that are already inside your home with the homemade borax traps you should have no issue for most commons ant problems. Some ants, especially carpenter ants, require a whole different approach since they are not all ants are attracted to sweet things.
I think this is a clever way to get rid of them. One issue though is you don’t want animals that eat ants to get poisoned from the borax. I would suggest methods that ward them off instead of directly poisoning. Thanks for writing.

The past few days I’ve started to notice a lot of ants that are coming in through our kitchen. I love your tip about how the most effective method is to kill the queen in her nest by sending in poison through worker ants. Because of time and not having any type of experience, I’ll need to hire a professional to come out and do that.
