Food Allergy Diet: Scary & Frustrating – Our New Normal?

This post may contain compensated links. Refer to my disclaimer for more info.

To be honest, having to suddenly go on a food allergy diet has been rather difficult.  The mysteries of some allergy issues that seem to have plagued our household lately make me want to curl in a ball and just cry.  Just being real.  My purpose is to always encourage wives – no matter your issues – you are not alone.

In addition to keeping my sanity and a journal of our progress, it’s my prayer that some allergy issues info I share will help another.  I’m also hoping that God will be glorified throughout and at the end of this interesting saga…..

Food Allergy Diet

It’s a scary reality for someone in our family to have to carry around Benedryl and an Epi Pen everywhere we go and to not know for certain what is causing the various symptoms.  Although we just got the results of a skin scratch test and blood work from the Allergist yesterday, the answers are a little hazy and some symptoms remain even though we had already cut out several of the common allergen foods.

Within a few week’s time, we went from eating a normal, wide variety of foods to suddenly having to pare that down to no seafood of any kind, nothing made with wheat or regular flour, no dairy, no eggs, and no to nuts too.    Oh yeah, and the tests revealed strong environmental allergies to molds, trees and grass and sensitivities to dogs, cats, and dust.

Awesome Sauce.

So we can’t jump on the food cults popular food group followings unless there is a loyal group called the I-can-practically-only-eat-meat-fruits-and-veggies club.  I don’t think one of those is offered.  OK, I’m exaggerating a little but did you see that list?

We’d pretty much cut out dairy already so that wasn’t a biggie but no wheat, egg, or nuts?  Those are in just about everything.  As frustrating and scary as this new normal is for our life right now, a few things that I know are true keep me going…..

  • It could be worse.
  • My family is blessed.
  • We are not alone.
  • Jesus is with us.
  • Out of sorrow and conflict, God often brings great truth.
  • His joy is new every morning.
  • I will not be moved.
  • I will Praise Him in this storm.
  • Prayer changes things.
  • It could be WORSE and I am thankful it is not.

Current Allergy Issues Plan

Here’s my current plan of action:

To fight the pollen, mold, dust, and dander allergy issues, I will continue taking daily and weekly precautions while finding the best resources to limit the environmental allergies in our home and vehicles.  To fight the food allergy issues, I’m still convinced that a leaky gut may be to blame for some of the problems springing up or making them worse, so I will also do what I can to ensure that our guts are healthy as possible.

That means that our entire household will avoid wheat, eggs, dairy, nuts, and seafood.  We are going to also avoid nightshade vegetables as well since I’m thinking they are also an irritant right now. I will be sure to have plenty of healing broth, steamed veggies, fresh fruits, clean meats, less processed foods, more coconut-based foods, high-quality probiotics, more sleep, and hopefully less stress.

Until then, I’ll keep researching my eyes out, and not give up because, well, I can’t.  Food is essential.  Remaining strong in the Lord through this is essential.  Getting past this and back to healthy is essential, therefore, I will press on.

UPDATE:  It took a long time to figure out with testing, many doctors appointment, and a very food allergy diet, but we finally know the specific allergens for our home.  I’m praising the Lord that it’s not as bad as it could be.  The worst food allergy is seafood.  The slightly less intense allergy is to peanuts.  And the mildest of them all is to mushrooms.  That’s it.

It will be tough to completely remove the healthy food group of seafood from our home but we’d much rather do that than try to deal with the tougher allergies that I know many of you have to do on a daily basis.  We are so thankful and we have learned so much!  On the bright side, near the end of this, I figured out how to make a chocolate cake that passed the test (wacky cake).

Hey lady! We have been having trouble with allergies around here as well. My 12 year old has been waking up every mornin with a severely swollen right eye. And the usual sneezing to go along with it. I’ve been having sinus headaches and migraines. This week, however, my friend that is a beekeeper, introduced me to local bee pollen from her bees. My son and I have been taking it all week and his eye has been normal and I haven’t had a single headache. I’m now a believer in local bee pollen lol!

Yes, I’m a believer too and I have plenty of the awesome, raw stuff and will start implementing that today. Pray for me though, most of my fam do not enjoy eating it plain. Should be fun. haha

      blessings to you!
