6 Awesome Daily Beauty Routine Hacks

Summer is a great time for having fun and enjoying warm weather, but it’s also a time you must switch up your daily beauty routine.  Hot, dry weather means sweating and sweating means that some things are gonna have to change.  Humidity can make it feel like your skincare or makeup is melting off your face. What’s a girl to do?

I got you covered because I’ve listed some hacks and product recommendations below that you don’t want to do without:

1.  Use a Fabulously Light, Tinted Moisturizer

If you wear makeup in the summer, you’re going to want a lighter, oil-free foundation for the summer months.  If you don’t lighten it up, your makeup may decide to run or you might get a case of “shiny face.”  No one wants foundation streaks or the greasy look.  It’s time to try a moisturizer that is lightweight but one that is tinted slightly to your skin tone.  Make sure it is oil-free.  If there is added sun protection, that is an added plus and one less step you have to take in your daily beauty routine.

My drug store recommendation is Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer.  It is light and airy and free from fragrance, paraben, and oil.  It’s also affordable compared to many others I’ve researched and used.  Score!  My luxury product recommendation would definitely be Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20.  This light foundation was the original BB cream back in the day – and still is.

2.  Carry Facial Blotters on-the-go

These are one of the greatest beauty tools ever invented.  They are so simple, affordable, and easy to carry with you but will help a great deal when it feels like your makeup is getting glossy.  They are created out of rice paper or similar materials to absorb excess oil from your face.  These work especially well to absorb the “glow” without rubbing makeup right off of your face.

All my life, I’d only heard of one brand of oil blotters, Mary Kay® Beauty Blotters Oil-Absorbing Tissues.   If you know a Mary Kay girl, order them from her, or find a girl in your area.  These days, there is another option of oil blotters that aren’t as large as the Mary Kay tissues but small papers that contain a tiny bit of powder. They are the Palladio Rice Paper Tissues.

3.  Use a Fabulous Cleanser only at Night

You will need a quality facial cleanser that works for your skin tone and type to thoroughly cleanse the sweat, SPF, and grime of summer days.  You might need a different type than what you use at other times of the year.  Don’t forget to never, ever sleep in your makeup.  Even if you have the oiliest skin on the planet, cleansing only at night is sufficient – splash with warm water in the morning if you wish.

I am in love with using cleansing wipes quickly at night and then giving my face a quick splash.  Quick, easy, and my face feels great. Yes To Cucumber Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes are my summer faves as well as the tried and my true method of coconut oil cleansing.

4.  Use a Hydrating Shampoo that Rocks

We put our hair through a lot in the summer.  It can dry out your hair with humid conditions and outdoor activities.  Pool chlorine is a nightmare for dry or damaged hair.  I would suggest that everyone invests in a good, professional-grade hydrating shampoo to keep your hair soft and silky in the summer months.  Yes, there is a difference between cheap shampoo and the good stuff – trust me.

My faves for the best summer shampoos would have to be Redken All Soft Shampoo for the normal, dry, course, frizzy, chemically-treated hair girls.  For those of you with what I call “baby hair” that is super soft, fine, and/or thin, my recommendation would be Aveda Pure Abundance Volumizing Shampoo.  Bonus: Worried about chlorine build-up?  Use a clarifying shampoo like Schwarzkopf Professional Sun Protect Shampoo which removes chlorine, mineral build-up, and salt safely from the hair, and use your moisturizing shampoo for the second lather.

Truth is, your cheap drug store shampoo is watered down, so spring for the good stuff and take care of those locks!

5.  Purchase a Dynamic Leave-in Spray Conditioner Right Now!

Every now and then you can use a traditional conditioner, especially for long or super-dry hair, but for your daily beauty routine, all you need is a jam-up conditioner that sprays in and stays in the ends.  Believe me, your hair needs the extra attention but it’s actually a quicker beauty hack than waiting for your typical conditioner to sit on the hair and then be rinsed out.  Also, with the “sprayer,”  you can pinpoint the conditioner to your ends and not the scalp so that it won’t get greasy.

Bonus:  Spray the leave-in conditioner into the ends of hair before jumping in a swimming pool as a barrier to protect it from chlorine soaking up in your hair.

TIGI Bed Head Superstar Volumizing Leave-In Conditioner would be my first choice and Infusium 23 Repair and Renew Leave in Treatment Spray would be my second choice.  Both of these awesome products are great for detangling, moisturizing, and protecting those ends during your summer’s daily beauty routine.

6.  Use a Great Sunscreen

Protecting your skin is so very important, especially if you are maturing a bit like, (cough), some of us.  (I was young when I started beauty school, but it was still 1988!)  You will want a sunscreen to use on your face and one for the rest of your exposed skin.  If you followed my recommendation for buying tinted facial moisturizers that contain SPF above, you’ll have your facial sunscreen covered.  I like keeping a heavy-duty, water sports one around for our summer adventures.

When my kiddo heads out the door for summer activities, I make sure she has Banana Boat Sport Performance Lotion with PowerStay Technology or something similar.  I personally think a high SPF like at the level of 25  does the job just fine, and I think the high-numbered SPFs are a bit of hype.  I am not an expert of SPF technology, however, so don’t blow a gasket if you don’t agree.  ðŸ˜‰  I still love my plain old coconut oil rubbed on my arms and such before my time in the sun.  After showering at night, I rub more on the tanned areas.  It may not work for your family, but I haven’t been sunburned in years from using this coconut oil method!

These six fanTABulous hacks and recommendations should serve you well for your daily beauty routine this summer, and I think you’ll be fully prepared for anything the warm weather sends your way.

These are great – I always remind myself to put on some form of nice sunblock on my lips, it’s no fun to get sunburned on your lips. They will crack and peel, and that is never fun!
