And nothing is more frustrating than trying to get that darn eggshell off that just refuses to cooperate! Here’s how to boil eggs perfectly every single time and get those eggshells to slide right off – as easy as a dream. Ready, wife friend?
How to boil eggs
I hesitated to share this tutorial because I feared that I’d look silly writing and filming about something so simple. But then I remembered that as a wife it takes time to figure things out. If sharing this hack of how to boil eggs saves you from a few moments of stress, then I’d do it all over again.
Amen?
I’ve even published a How to Boil Eggs video for you on YouTube that I’ll add below. But first, I’m spelling out my instructions so that uyou can get the hang of it. After a couple times, you’ll have the steps memorized for good.
Directions for perfectly-boiled eggs
- Place whole, raw eggs in a medium saucepan
- Cover with cold water – just to the top of eggs
- Turn burner to high
- Bring eggs and water to a hard boil
- When a boil starts, turn the burner off
- Leave pot on the hot burner and cover
- Set timer for 10-12 minutes
- Remove pan and sit in the kitchen sink
- Run cold water in pan
- Start cracking eggs right away and rinse
- Enjoy!

It’s the silliest thing but I always have trouble making hard boiled eggs. No matter what I do they seem to come out half done. I can bake a cake and make dinner for 15 people but can’t boil an egg! Thanks for your tips

Your funny words have made my day, Nicole!!! Thanks for sharing that and encouraging me to keep sharing the things I’ve learned along the ‘Wife Life’ way!
Just cracking the eggs (gently!) after boiling and then submerging them in ice water also helps make them easier to peel. It’s not always a guarantee, especially if your eggs are still fairly fresh, but it helps.

Thanks so much for the tip, Maya!

Great minds think alike! That’s how we boil our eggs in our house and usually have pretty good success!

Question regarding “10-12 minutes depending on whether they’re store-bought or farm fresh eggs”… Which one takes longer?
Author
Could just be my house, but I find that fresh requires an extra minute or so. Also, the fresher the eggs, the harder they are to peel because the inner membrane is still hanging on tight. 😉 Be sure to experiment with times according to your stove the first time. Everyone’s appliance is different. Thanks!!! 😉

Hey, this post is so helpful! My mom and grandma always boiled eggs in my family. Since I moved out for college I haven’t had any boiled eggs because I didn’t know how. This is a great how to. Also, the quality of the picture you took of the eggs is so good!

Great tips! When my mom was visiting recently, she taught me to run cold water over the eggs. I never knew! We eat hard boiled eggs A LOT at my house – so much so that I was given an egg cooker as a gift – ha! I never thought I’d use it…but I was wrong; it makes the best – easy to peel eggs every time 🙂
Boiling eggs seems such a simple thing, when in reality it is one of those things that needs instructions! These instructions are great.
I always struggle with boiling eggs properly! I can never get the shells to come off properly, no matter how strictly I follow instructions. I’m going to give your version a try, because I love hard boiled eggs
Omg this is speaking to me! You have no idea how many times I have text my mom, “ how do I boil eggs again!” Lol it never fails thank you so much for this post the most annoying part is peeling them but your advice is great!

Why do the easy looking things end up being the hardest? The perfectionist in me cannot stand bringing deformed hardboiled eggs to family dinners.
Thanks for writing this! I’ve been struggling cooking them just right. This was a great tutorial! I’m trying it tomorrow.
Great tips!!I always keep a few hard boiled eggs in my refrigerator for quick snacks. So now I know how to make them and have to shells crack perfectly.
Thanks for sharing this. I wish I’d come across this before Easter weekend but it will be very helpful for the future as I love making deviled eggs.
I’ve really liked using the Instant Pot for this job. Easy peel every time!
We did this technique with a little vinegar this year and it worked like a charm! Thanks!
It makes perfect sense so naturally I’m having a bit of a *facepalm* moment! Thanks for sharing! Maybe now I won’t massacre my hard boiled eggs lol
