It’s warming up outside and families are searching for Spring Break 2017 and Summer vacation ideas. You know I’m all about “off the grid” places for your family getaway! I’ve been travel writing for a long time now, and the off-the-the-beaten path destinations usually turn out to surprisingly be the most enjoyable memories of them all. Here are just a few Spring Break 2017 & Summer ideas you do not want to miss this year …..
Rosemary Beach, Florida
Who wouldn’t want to visit beaches with fluffy, white sand that resembles sugar – but without the touristy crowds?! A secret among families who’ve sought out the best spots along Florida’s Hwy 30a, it’s got small town vibes with big town eats! Everything you need to play, eat, and relax are within the community. Bike through as a family and check out all of the sidewalk cafes (that sounds like heaven to me anyway!).
Pine Mountain, Georgia
One of my favorite vacations with both kids was one of our favorite vacation spots in Georgia. We spent our time outdoors in F. D. Roosevelt State Park and the charming town where that former president spent time in White Springs. Callaway Gardens is a must during the Spring and Summer months but the blooming azaleas and the glass-enclosed butterfly conservatory are only the beginning of what makes it a must-see.
Folly Beach, South Carolina
You know I adore all of the Things to Do in Charleston, but have you thought about visiting one of its five adorable beaches? The great thing about having five beaches to choose from is that there is one for every type of family. Folly Beach is a young, hip little beach community with wide, sandy beaches with only one hotel so the crowds are very minimal. Visit this clean, dog-friendly town with a bohemian vibe and beach access from almost every street.
Amelia Island, Florida
Ah, the location of my childhood beach memories! If you want to play golf, see shrimp boats, and go to a luxury car show, Amelia Island is your place. Amelia Island consistently ranks with Top 10 U.S. Islands because of its 13 miles of windswept beaches, laid-back recreation, and historical exploration. Stay at Amelia Island Plantation or the Fort Clinch Campground like our family always did and make memories to last a lifetime!
We don’t have any vacations planned for this year so I would gladly visit any of these destinations!
These places sound amazing! Little hidden gems I didn’t know about. Thanks for sharing.
I love these ideas! None of them are outside of driving distance for us, so I’m definitely going to keep your list in mind as we try and plan our summer getaways! I’ve especially heard great things about all your beach destinations (Amelia & Rosemary) Thanks so much for the tips!
Looks wonderful. I haven’t been on vacation science my honeymoon 30 yrs ago. We both got sick so maybe a good thing. Lol
This post is just in time. I was looking for travel inspiration for the coming months. Georgia looks beautiful.
These suggestion came at just the right time. Love the small town vibes in these options. Thank you for sharing.

Your pictures are beautiful. Georgia is now on my list of spring trips, thanks. I am headed to Utah National Parks later this month, so I do not know if they are a favorite, but places I have wanted to go for a long time. I have been to Santa Fe in the spring and that was wonderful. The Georgia O’Keefe museum was a highlight.
Yes! My only problem with Rosemary Beach is that people know about it. LOL Such a fabulous place.
We love to travel and love the beach! I’m always on the lookout for new vacation spots. We will definitely need to look into these spots!

Lots of great ideas! We are headed to Charlotte, North Carolina this week.

These all look like beautiful and fun places to visit!
This is a great list! I am planning a road trip to the south east and am going to have to bookmark this for later!
I’ve never heard of most of these places. I have to say, that I do love Florida. It is more than theme parks. Rosemary Beach sounds beautiful. I think my favorite Florida out of the way place is the Everglades Hostel in Florida City. It is family and pet friendly, and a great home base for the Keys and a number of parks. Great blog! I’m ready to pack!
Pine Mountain looks amazing!
I’ve never heard of any of these places but you honestly can’t go wrong vacationing in the south 🙂
Michigan has a lot of beautiful destinations – surrounded by lakes, you would forget you were in Michigan. My favorite is northwest (traverse city) is a must visit – huge tourist town and west Michigan is gorgeous. I will definitely check out the Florida spots for upcoming vacations 🙂
I love Folly Beach! Although Kiawah/Seabrook Island pull a little ahead for me in that area since they are so quiet. This is a fabulous list! I wish I was headed for a circuit to stay at all of these beautiful places.
Those all sound like beautiful locations to visit with your family. I went camping with my husband and 2 young boys a couple of months ago… It didn’t go very well. We won’t be going again until they are a bit older! haha
These all sound like such amazing places, and ones that I hadn’t heard of before! We will definitely have to check them out.
And here I thought I had wanderlust before reading this post… I need sun in my life!
Love these “off the beaten path” ideas. I have been to Amelia Island (for a wedding) and it was so great! Never heard of the others, Im pinning this for later!
I definitely want to visit georgia someday. Looks so serene!

Thanks, Caitlin. Your comment makes me happy! 😉
I enjoy reading and finding out about lesser-known vacation spots, and this article hits the mark. I was aware that there are great vacation spots outside of the normal tourist-filled cities, but it would be great to find beautiful locations away from major crowded cities and areas. These all look like beautiful destinations, thanks for sharing. I will make it a point to visit all of these locations. I will, also, be pinning this article.
I so need a beach in my life right now! Great picks.
