Mini Health Challenge For Those Who Need Fresh Hope Instead Of A Diet {Week #1}

I really need a fresh start with my health goals, just like you do {I’m guessing since you are reading this!} 

A detox or a highly intensive fitness program is not on the radar at this time.  An easy-peasy Mini Summer Health Challenge where I can focus on “adding in” excellent healthy habits each week rather than “taking away” things away is key for this season of my life.

The responses I received on the blog and privately after I wrote How to get as little Exercise as Possible caught me off-guard.  It seems I’m really not the only one who puts more into planning and toiling over what exercise “program” I should do instead of just jumping up and “moving” when the opportunity arises.

In our house, we’ve made great gains with our health over the past year but we’ve gotten a little lax lately with our determination {especially with exercise}.  As I was thinking through a simple plan yesterday {and I mean simple}, I thought about all the women who have shared their struggles with me about really wanting to improve their health but being too overwhelmed to begin.

Today is a new day and I decided to share my new Mini Summer Health Journals with you for three reasons:

  1. Accountability to stick with my simple plan.  95% success rate comes with accountability
  2. A journal to look back on when I am tickled with my success
  3. I want you to be encouraged and live life fully and know you are beautiful – right now – no matter your body shape or fitness level
  4. To help anyone who needs a gentle push to come along treat your body like the treasure it is

My Easy-Peasy Plan for the First Week of June

Halfway through the day yesterday, I realized it was June 1st and the idea hit that it would be a good day to restart my health goals.  So when Superman and Princess left for their Daddy-Daughter date, I set my time for thirty minutes and starting walking and alternating some jogging in there too.   When thirty minutes were up, I was sweating and hit the shower.

What a great feeling!   I absolutely love the way I feel after I’m done {and can actually catch my breath!}  Why do I ever stop?  Why do you?

I’m taking just one week at a time and here’s this week’s plan {June lst – June 7th}:

I downloaded the Couch to 5K app that slowly eases you from no exercise to becoming increasingly more fit within weeks.  It sounded like the baby steps I need and it’s something new and fun {I get bored so easily!}  If you aren’t an app person, you can download a schedule from the Couch to 5K site.

I’ve only accomplished one day so far, but I really liked it and it wasn’t too hard.   I liked being able to zone out during my walk and then someone say, “Jog!” when I needed to jog for a minute and then tell me when to “walk” again.  I also liked “logging my workout in” and feeling a sense of accomplishment.  It seriously took about two seconds.  I will do the C25K workout every other day {at least 3 times a week}. 

You do not have to choose C25K but if you have not been doing anything in the way of getting your heart rate up, I want you to choose something to do for 15-30 minutes just two to three days a week.  Even if it is only walking up and down flights of stairs, it’s more than you have been doing!  If you are past the beginner fitness level, find something extra fun to do three days a week with me.

I’m purposely keeping the nutrition very simple early on because it can seem so complicated and such a stumbling block for many women.  We’re going to stack great nutritional healthy habits – one on top of another to build a healthy body this summer!

I challenge you to drink a glass of water at these times with me every. single. day. :

  • When you wake up
  • Right after your “workout”
  • With Breakfast
  • With Lunch
  • With Dinner
  • With at least one snack

If you can be intentional to drink just one glass or bottle of water at those times, you’ll be on your way to falling in love with water.  I also challenge you to go to get at least six to eight hours of sleep.   Just take the time you have to get up each morning and count back at least six hours and make sure you hit the hay by then.

    Love the C25K free app! That’s what Grace and I used when planning our first 5k as mom and daughter! I hurt my hamstring during that time and had to stop but picked up a week back and completed it! I am NOT a lover of running like the people who say it’s a natural high, but I made it a bucket list goal!! Check!!!
