After Thanksgiving Day at the Hiawassee Georgia campground and snowboarding at Scaly Mountain on Black Friday, it was time to head home the next day. Guess what was technically on our way home? Alpine Helen, Georgia.
We love visiting Helen during the Christmas season. Why? It’s a recreation of a German, alpine village, and kids will love the feeling that you’ve landed into the real-life story of Hansel and Gretel. Small, quaint, charming, and unique complete with cobblestone alleys and old-world towers. The Christmas Holiday in Helen is especially magical because they go all-out with the decorations.
Talk about getting you in the holiday spirit. Similar to how I feel about Jekyll Island Georgia, there is something special about this tiny mountain village that keeps drawing us back here. There are so many Helen GA attractions that I’d love to share with you in another post if your family stays for several days in this area. Today, however, I’ll provide you with a walking tour around the town with lots of photography of our day trip.
Landscape
Helen is located in the blue ridge mountains of Northeast Georgia. It’s considered a worry free vacations spot to me because you can simply hop out of the car at one end of main street and literally see all the nooks and crannies by foot without having to find a parking space elsewhere. Be sure to wear good walking shoes though.
The village has much to see, eat, and buy. Two must-do activities besides shopping and eating are to 1) take a carriage ride around the town when you first arrive and 2) then to find Santa. We are convinced this couple is the real deal. The genuine Klaus. Weihnachtsmann. Nick. Kris Kringle.
Helen Ga Attractions & Lodging
I would love to tell you all about the many, many, many {do understand there is a lot}, wonderful attractions, and nature activities, such as tubing down the Chattahoochee River, hiking up the many North GA mountains, mini-golf, intriguing Native American legends, and the nearby gold mining, Cabbage Patch Babyland, and Anna Ruby Falls, etc.
