How to Start Eating Healthier ~ Wife Edition

Thank Goodness it’s time to get this Healthier WifeLife Par-tay started.  I’m ready to get a restart on how to start eating healthier and get the pep back in my step.  It’s day #1 and I promised I’d give you the lowdown of how each day goes – A Day in the Life of a Wife (complete with VIDEO below) – that’s keeping her health on track and helping friends do the same.  Are you along for the ride?

Several of you have let me know that you are excited about the accountability and fun of this challenge.  To me, it all boils down to being intentional.  When we are intentional to give a little forethought, things are completely different, aren’t they?  It’s that way for me at least.

Let’s do this!

How to Start Eating Healthier Day #1

The day started out wild the moment that my feet hit the floor.  I remember thinking a couple times today that if I wasn’t intentional and constantly thinking about how to start eating healthier, my day would have fallen apart by 10:30 a.m.

Remembering that many of you need this as much as me and knowing that this system works pushed me to do better today. I have a quick video recap of the day below but here’s the breakdown:

Before Breakfast 

I drank my warm, Vitamin B drink slowly and enjoyed it.  I took two probiotics out of the herbal cleanse packet (just showing you the brands I think are the best quality if you are going to supplement – totally my opinion).  You are welcome to read about them at those links just to know what they are and why I take them (aff).  I waited thirty minutes before moving on to breakfast to give those two things time to do their jobs.

Breakfast

I took the easy road and drank a yummy protein shake.  They’re fast, easy, good for you, and seriously taste so good.  With my shake, I took two Omega 3 vitamins.

Mid-Morning Snack

One serving of unsalted nuts and a serving of seedless grapes.  Keeping it simple for snack time is a lifesaver.  I don’t have time or energy to put into preparing a snack at this time.  I’m sure you don’t either.  Just mix a healthy protein & fruit.  Proteins that are easy like peanut butter (with as little sugar and salt as you can find – or almond butter),  Seeds, Nuts, Boiled Eggs, Rice Cake w/Nut Butter.  Veggies are welcome any time also.

Lunch

Today, I threw some steak in the skillet.  I cooked the steak in coconut oil (unflavored) and removed to a plate.  I added the a bag of frozen stirfry veggies in the skillet with a little coconut oil, pepper, and Mrs. Dash.  When the veggies came to a boil, I turned them down to low, covered them and cooked for eight minutes.  I threw the cooked steak in at the last minute to soak up the juices and called it a meal.

Mid-Afternoon Snack

Like I speak about in the video below, I grabbed a bag of almonds and a large bottle of water before hitting the door.  It was a total lifesaver.  Instead of starving at the game or giving in to Nachos at the concession stand, I was good.

Dinner

I came home and warmed up my steak stir fry which was delicious.  Whole grain brown rice and quinoa could have been added to this meal but I wasn’t that hungry.  It’s after dinner now (lots later) and I’m still not hungry.  I was supposed to take two Omega 3 vitamins but forgot to.  Ooops!

Water

I drank about 84 ounces of water today.  Woo Hoo!  Could have been more but I’m pleased with that!  How much did you drink?

Before Bed

I’m about to hit the hay, but first I’m going to take the p.m. vitamins from the herbal cleanse packet.  I know taking it this late WITH water is going to make me have to wake up during the night to potty.  That’s something I never do … unless I drink water right before bed.  Tomorrow night I will try to remember to take this nighttime vitamin a little earlier.

    I just joined the YMCA here and have started down the healthier me journey as well. I’m more just trying to eat cleaner and exercise more though. Sounds like you had a great first day! Keep up the great work!

    Snacks are always where it goes downhill for me and healthy eating. I really find nuts are one of the best snacks to reach for, and they are really filling!

    Looks like you’re off to a great start! Good call on throwing the nuts in your bag before heading out. I am not a big nut-eater but I think I need to find my own healthy grab and go equivalent. As for Peanut Butter – Teddy’s All Natural is where it’s at. Roasted peanuts. Nothing else. NO added salt or sugar and super delicious. Just be sure to store it upside down 🙂

    Having a plan and being intentional is so important for me! It’s a mountain I’m climbing (and some days are better than others), but it’s great to know I”m not the only one on the climb!
