You want to know how to make your home cozy and inviting this fall but don’t have extra time to spare. Never fear! With these quick tricks, you can create a cozy haven of warmth and comfort and know how to make your home cozy on a budget as well. Let make our haven enjoyable and memorable for fall with these 5 quick home hacks – done in a jif!
How to make your home cozy at any time
How to make your home cozy and calm this fall (and for every season) is really pretty simple when you break it down. The following home hacks will help welcome everyone who walks through its doors. We can prepare our hearts too. But beware, when you know how to make your house cozy and warm, you may have trouble getting folks to leave!
1. Add Darkness & Light
Most days, I want the sun to pour in but when we want to cozy up on the couch with movies, I enjoy heavy window treatments that shut out the light and adding my own soft lighting inside. The flickering light of candles and other soft light sources are so calming.
This year, I’ve been obsessed with those flameless, faux candles that flicker just like the real thing. I have a few but can’t get enough of them! These are in my shopping cart right this very minute because they also come with a remote and can be used outside as well…
2. Add softness
One of the quickest, cheapest, and easiest ways to cozy up your home is by simply adding blankets, throws, and pillows in a variety of heavier materials. Don’t have new fall pillows or throws? Just tie a piece of remnant burlap around the center of one of your pillows or hot glue some fall fabric around it like this…
3. Add nostalgic scents
Of course, nothing says cozy like yummy smells in the home. Whether you are into candle, meltable wax, or essential oils, I suggest putting one of them in a pretty container that you love and burning when you walk in the door. Nothing calms my stress away like a fall-scented candle or gluten free banana bread or pumpkin cupcakes baking in the oven.
4. Add warmth
One home hack I’ve had to learn when figuring out how to make your home cozy is to add different textures to a room. Walk into your non-cozy space right now and tell me what textures are there already? Do you already have wood, galvanized metal, fabric like burlap, or any fuzzy materials? If you had a hard time finding a variety of textures in your room, my advice is to just add a little bit of what you are missing.
I believe that’s why the farmhouse living craze has been so popular. We are drawn to spaces that have a mixture of woods, chalkboard, greenery, burlap, metal, etc. Doesn’t that last sentence make you think of THE farmhouse? It’s really pretty simple really.
5. Add plants or small furniture
Fill those empty corners and empty spaces economically with plants and small pieces of decor. This doesn’t have to be expensive. Simply add baskets with cozy blankets in them to the corners of the room. Add a stack of old books on a shelf. Put a container of flowers (real or faux) in a container on the coffee table.
Easy Peasy!
How to make your home cozy for fall
To specially know how to make your home cozy for fall, I would just add elements mentioned above, but with a fall theme when possible. Lots of warm-colored candles and fall decor, burlap, wood, flannel, and of course, mums.

Fall is one of my favorite times of year because of the coziness of it! I love flameless candles too… so much safer, plus I use diffusers instead of real candles. Christmas Spirit from Young Living is the best oil for fall, winter, and really anytime!!!
That opening photo is sooo inviting ! I love the flameless candles too ! I have them all over the house , they make a room so cozy. Thanks for all the great ideas .
These are all great ideas! I love candles! Since I have cats, I have some shelves they can’t get to where I put my candles. I also have several wax warmers and essential oil diffusers. My house smells like pumpkin spice right now!

I’ve never had a cat live inside with me. Had no idea you had to be careful with candles. They are curious things I guess. Love the wax warmers too and anything pumpkin spice!!!

Great ideas. There are always so many pretty decor ideas and throw pillows out for fall and the holidays.
I have been wanting the light up blossom tree for ages! I think it would be perfect in the house during the winter, but I have yet to make the investment.
This is something I’ve been working on in my entire home. In the living room, we added sconce lighting a couple of years ago that are on dimmers so I can easily change the lighting in there. And once it cools off enough I’ll pull out my basket of blankets, too!
Your cozy fall decor ideas are great. Love adding candles and houseplants to warm my living spaces
I’m all about number 2! Blankets and pillows are my weakness haha!
I absolutely love changing certain items over for the fall / autumn weather too. Throw pillows, different scented candles, door wreaths, and accented gourds. Just got a stylish space heater too, loving it.
I love this! Having a cozy home is such a great way to de-stress. The flamelesss candles are such a great idea!

I’m getting ready to move and have zero idea of how to redecorate my new home (Which is very much needed). I’m looking forward to being able to use some of your tips in order to do so.
Great 5 simple ideas to make your home more cozy. I love it all and agree with you 100% but I also love to add to your aromas section by saying that you could bring to a boil in water a few sticks of cinnamon and some slices of oranges or lemons. This will give you some amazing scents throughout the whole house. I too wrote a piece on how to make your home more cozy and I feel we have the same feeling of what is cozy!
